Machu Picchu | Peru

It all started with...
an 80’s French/Japanese animated series. I was about 6 or 7 years old when “ Les Mysterieuses Cites D’or” enchanted my spirit and filled my heart. The tale of three kids looking for the mysterious Golden Cities in the heart of the Inca civilization, hidden somewhere in the Sacred Andes. They were not alone unfortunately, Spanish Conquistadors were also looking for them, although not for the same reasons. Ensued an incredible adventure that still makes me dream to this day. Watching each episode carefully, I pretended to be Zia, one of the main characters. I started reading about the Incas, the Andes, Machu Picchu…I was 7 years old. I would go and lay down on my bed or look out the window in my bedroom and wish, and wish and wish, that soon, I will make my way to Machu Picchu. looking up at the sky, I would even bargained with God. “ Please let me go to Machu Picchu and I will promise to make my bed everyday, have good grades and be a good daughter to my parents. Still, No plane tickets to Machu Picchu miraculously appeared on my front door or under my pillow. So I kept, wishing, dreaming and hoping.

As the years passed, I kept reading about the Incas, and Machu Picchu. I kept learning everything I could because I knew that I had to be ready for the day it would finally happened. Learning about it helped me be patient and created so much excitement and impatience at the same time. I eventually discovered vision boards. I cut out a picture of Machu Picchu and stuck it on there. It stayed on many different boards for so many years, even accompanied me through 2 trans-atlantic moves, but it stayed put.
Waiting to become true. Fast forward 30 years, I am now a grown woman, still holding the dream of that 7 year old little girl, and the dream finally came true!
